There was football life in Wigan before Wigan Athletic and the Premier League!
This website has come about because whilst myself and Mike Latham were getting to grips with writing the Wigan Borough story, we were gazzumped by Garth Dykes who produced the fabulous book 'Wigan Borough In The Football League'.
However, I had at hand years of research and felt that I could perhaps produce what I feel will be the most comprehensive publication, written or otherwise on the subject. All information on this site has been obtained over many years and all of it has been in the public domain at one time or another over the last one hundred years or so. The same applies to any of the pictures and photographs used for the purposes of this site. If copyright has somehow been infringed I apologise and will remove any item deemed to be the exclusive property of anybody else. Alternatively, anybody who feels they deserve crediting will be given the courtesy.
Hopefully, the need won't arise as my motives for this site are purely for educational purposes and a deep love of football in my local town.
Special thanks go to David Roughley, author of the 'Springfield Park Memorial site' for the proof reading and also access to a few photographs reproduced in the photographic section of the site. Incidentally, the photograph used here was given to Dave by Mr J Welsby, the son of Arthur Welsby who is pictured on the back row, the last player on the right. It has been 'colourised' by Wigan Athletic die hard George Chilvers.
